Not only do they Stiffen the Support Rods. But should you lose a Bolt from one of the Boom Support Rods the Brace will keep the Rod from Flying up into your Rotor Head. This Product is a Great Idea.

What can I say... They work great, took the shakiness right out of the support rods and I don't see anymore flexing. They fit perfect and don't move once in place. Ive seen other products out there that use zippy ties to hold them together. Umm really! Whatever...

Not sure if weight would be a lot or not, but if they were made of metal and a color of your choice or atleast have them in different colors I think that would be cool. Nothing wrong with having a little bling for your heli.
