Really Like Hobbywing Products

I decided to get back into R/C planes after not flying them for almost a decade. I bought a 53”high wing trainer and an 800kv motor. I wanted to run a decent prop, 12”, and at least 4s lipos. I decided to get this 80amp fly fun ESC by hobbywing because I could go to higher voltage batteries and put it into a different plane when my skill returns. This was easy to program with the programming box and works flawlessly. Stays super cool and lets the current flow when I want more power. Perfectly designed for airplanes.

Hobbywing funfly 80a

This esc works exactly as it should, the only reason I am leaving 4 stars is because when even though I purchased the wrong esc for my trex 500 I thought I could still use it with soft turn on programmed. When using the programmer normal, soft, ultra soft, has no change in how the esc starts up. Other than that small issue the esc works flawless

I've been having problems with the 60A Avian ESC that came in my HH Turbo Timber Evo. I had originally bought this ESC for a different plane, but realized that I could get away with a smaller one, so I put this in the TT Evo. It's great! I try to go with Hobby Wing for all my fixed wing ESCs since they always seem to be reliable!

Good ESC, but not plug-n-play

Definitely an ESC for the Plank crowd. If you want a heli ESC, this is not for you. The ability to reverse rotation should be your first clue. For those looking to put some cheap "brakes" on their plane, this is the ESC you want. There are a couple of things you need to know.

1 - Get the programmer box. It's cheap and soooo much better than counting beeps, especially if the default timing doesn't work for you.

2 - Make sure you setup the throttle end points before doing anything else.

3 - This ESC does not have an auto-timing mode. The default is 20. That worked on one of my jets, but the other wanted 30. Do not just connect this and go fly. Check your throttle response first!

4 - When setting up your reverse channel, don't set the endpoints to the same as the throttle. For some reason this causes issues. I used +/- 75% of the throttle endpoint settings and everything worked correctly. Forward is below 50%, reverse is above 50%.

Awesome ESC so far!

funfly esc not for helis

big mistake , to save money. don't buy. the manual/specs stated that the start up mode can be set to soft start, soft, fast. There is no difference, this esc are for planes not helicopters
